This page is devoted to my Ward ancestors. Eric Ward (my grandfather) was born in Gosford, NSW in 1890, the son of Manasseh Ward and Madeline Geary-Henderson.
I am currently actively researching and documenting the Ward ancestors and the files below are the results of the current project. The first stage of the work is based on a previous family history - The Henderson and Ward Families of Brisbane Water prepared by Joan Taylor in the 1980s.
The Ward family were among the earliest European pioneers of the Gosford district. My uncle, Harold Ward, used to proudly say that the Wards were one of the first four families on the Central Coast. Of course there were people living in the area for thousands of years before European settlers arrived, but even before William Ward started cutting timber on Brisbane Water, the original inhabitants were in decline, particularly affected by smallpox and other diseases that arrived with the British colonists.
