Thomas Watkins was an English convict who arrived in Sydney in 1814. He was the son of John and Ann Watkins. Sarah Lewis was born in the colony, probably of convict parents (James Lewis and Susan Shaddock). The couple married in Sydney and Thomas worked as a carter and publican. Eventually they started a family in Sydney, then as the older children were nearing adulthood, the family moved to Mangrove Creek and took up farming.
Their daughter Sarah Jane Watkins features in the next level of this family biography.
